What is a cream ale?

Answer:
A cream ale, also called a “creamer,”
is one of two types of American beers.  Both have a smooth, refreshing texture and mild flavor.  Cream ales are made with top-fermenting yeast, just like any other ale.  However, they are conditioned like a lager, in cool temperatures.  More types of cream ales are always being developed and brought to the market.

The first type of cream ale is a beer served with nitrogen, which gives the beer a creamy, smooth feel.  Nitrogen may be present in a widget in the beer can or bottle, or the keg may be pressurized with nitrogen.  The second type of cream ale is an American beer that is brewed in the style of a Kölsch, a mild creamy German beer with a pale color.  Both types of cream ale are generally pale in color and about 5 percent alcohol by volume.
