What is a Microbrewery?

Answer:
Hold on to your tabs and bottle caps, Budweiser and
Coors. There are new breweries in town.

Microbreweries are challenging the name-brand companies and gaining in popularity, nationwide, selling their own products in local markets, restaurants and bars, while picking up a following from those who favor mass-produced brews. The smaller breweries usually manufacture no more than 15,000 barrels annually and products are recognized as craft beer or cask ale. Focusing on the quality and variety of their beers, microbreweries produce high-end robust brews that are generally all malt and select ingredients. I'm not a big fan of beer (I'm more into wine or mixed drinks), but I think I'd like to go to a microbrewery brewpub, just because I've heard about the warmth and fun-filled atmosphere. By the way, a brewpub is a bar or restaurant where beer is brewed on the premises. I know the ones near my hometown have some of the best food, as well as, great adult beverages. Microbreweries began in California in the 1970s and have spread across the country. With more than 1,600 breweries now in existence, Samuel Adams is currently the largest producer of a craft beer in America. Many of the name-brand breweries have now opened microbrewery lines to compete in the brewing arena, and a trip to one could be the ticket for a casual evening on the town.
