What is Wheat Beer?

Answer:
With a name like wheat beer, this brew should be a
favorite of beer lovers in the Midwest, but wheat beer is an internationally popular product brewed in several areas of the world. Wheat-beer brewers in Germany, Belgium, the United States, Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Brazil have joined the ranks of beer makers everywhere to produce these special varieties of beer.

Because of wheat, the drink is light and often fruity or sweet flavored. Some beer recipes have overtones of clove, banana, coriander, bitter orange peel, or other spices, while a few blend in sweetend syrups of lemon and raspberry. Wheat beer runs from pale to dark in color, even offering a “white” beer and has a smooth and creamy texture.

I’m not the truest beer fan, but I’d like to taste some of the wheat beers just for the many choices.

Brewing techniques play a role in the wheat-beer taste, as well as, the amount or lack of basic ingredients (malted wheat, raw unmalted wheat, malted barley, hops, yeast and others) used in each brewing recipe. Some American wheat beers use ordinary ale yeast, but lack the fruitier taste of European counterparts.

For beer-lovers, wheat beer is generally available in spring or summer in the United States, and the two most common varieties are brewed in Bavaria and Belgium.
