What is a Bloody Mary?

Answer:
Want a mixed drink or cocktail with kick? That’s
exactly what to expect when you order a true Bloody Mary. According to experts, the drink is a combination of vodka, tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, salt and pepper and lemon juice.

Other variations include using vegetable juice, horseradish, beef consomme or bouillon, cayenne and black pepper, and lemon, lime or orange juice. The cocktail is served over ice and garnished with celery salt or stalk and/or a lemon wedge.

I like the extra touches, of horseradish, and Worcestershire sauce, but I’m not “adventurous” enough for beef flavoring, Tabasco sauce, or cayenne pepper. If you’re not sure all the hot stuff works for you, you can always follow the cocktail with a beer chaser.

Bloody Mary garnishes cover a variety of veggies and its not uncommon to serve them with olives, mushrooms, and carrots, or a favorite meat, fish or cheese. Some recommend pickled beans or pickled asparagus spears, but that’s a little too “sophisticated” for my tastes.

Oh, for those that vodka isn’t the drink of choice, just about any alcohol can work, and for a nonalcoholic drink there is a Virgin Mary.

Bloody Marys and Virgin Marys are considered more morning and afternoon drinks and traditionally are not served after 6 p.m
