What is a Frappuccino?

Answer:
As a child growing up in the ‘50s, I had no
clue that a favored drink shared by my parents would someday take America by storm during the ‘90s and beyond.

What was it? It was ice coffee.

Today a similar version is reaching millions of new coffee lovers in a beverage called Frappuccino, a blended drink made from strong coffee, flavored syrups, sugar, a dairy base and ice. It comes as a blended icy beverage or a bottled coffee beverage.

And unlike its predecessor from the “old days“, Frappuccino comes in several different varieties and carries a registered trademark by the internationally known coffeehouse, Starbucks. Some say the drink resembles a slush made with coffee.

The icy drinks can be topped with whipped cream and other yummie treats, much like a milkshake, sundae or hot chocolate. I've found the whipped topping adds just the right touch to the beverage.

Versions of the popular drink include original, light, decaf, crème and crème light. Crème’s actually are coffee-free and made with a specially created cream base. Blended coffees rate high, as do blended crème’s, and blended juice drinks. Starbucks also offers special versions, too..

According to some sources, increased competition in coffeehouses across the nation has resulted in an influx of copycat beverages.
