Just like opinions, everyone has one on what microwave ovens rank in the top five.

Microwave ovens now are on the countertop, under the counter, over the regular range, and some actually replace the kitchen range with a microwave stove top and oven.

The most popular style is still the countertop version, which can cost from $70 to high-end models at $600. Over-the-range and under-the-counter versions are growing at a steady pace and cost about the same as countertop ovens. The stove top and oven replacement design runs anywhere from $1,200 to $3,000.

After considering information from several sources, I’ve found there are five leading brands that make the top-ranked list. Top brands are G.E., Sharp, Panasonic, Kenmore, KitchenAid and Whirlpool, and cost is determined by size and features. The first three each had models that ranked high in various publications.

Microwaves come classified as large, 2 cubic feet or more, medium, 1.5 cubic feet or more and compact, 1cubic feet or less. Popular features in various ovens today include inverter technology, providing continuous cooking power for even heat, sensors to track food temperatures, stainless steel body and/or interior, convection technology for browning food, combination microwave/toasters and child locks.

My advice is to research sources to find what models and features of the top five personally work best, then look for the best price.
