What is Fruit?

Answer:
Fruit is a biological term that refers to the method
used by flowering plants to spread seeds. Although many often assume fruit to be sweet (such as apples, watermelon or kiwi) there are wide ranges of fruits that are not. Examples of these include tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant and even nuts.

There are three primary fruit distinctions: simple, aggregate and multiple. Simple fruit are the result of a fertilized seed that has grown from just one pistil. An example of a dry simple fruit is a pea and of a fleshy simple fruit is a plum. Aggregate fruits result from a flower with numerous simple pistils. An example would be a raspberry. Multiple fruits grow from plants that have a cluster of flowers that each produces a fertilized seed but the resulting fruits all develop into one fruit. An example of a multiple fruit is a fig.
