What is Mead?

Answer:
Mead certainly sounds insignificant and less
than sophisticated.  When I hear the word Mead I immediately think of peasants sitting around a table eating turkey legs during medieval times or perhaps it was a staple for pirates.  Mead in fact is an alcohol drink comprised of Yeast, Water and Honey.

Mead is basically Wine or Champagne mixed with a little Water and some Honey.  It's actually quite nice and refreshing.  I would almost put Mead in the beer family as it's usually stored and distributed in bottles that resemble a fancy brew.  When you enjoy Mead it doesn't put out the strong aromas and flavors Wine or Champagne does.  In fact, the Honey really mellows out or softens any sweetness associated with the drink.  Without the carbonated bubblies Mead would be very similar to a fruit or custom flavored micro brew.

All-in-all I would recommend trying it.  There are quite a few recipes and dishes that call for Mead as well.  The only problem you may have is scoring a bottle at your local Liquor Store.  You may need to travel to a large retail or outlet Liquor Store to find a decent bottle of Mead.
