What is Oenology?

Answer:
Whether you prefer a dry wine or a sweeter version,
white or blush, champagne or spumanti, it alls comes under the heading of oenology or enology, (the United States spelling).

What is oenology? It’s the study of wines and winemaking from planting the vines to bottling the finished product. Though growing grapes and making wine sound’s simple enough, the process is much more complex to produce a really fine wine. Factors involved range from weather and environmental considerations during growing times to what time of day the grapes are picked and what type of barrel is used to age the finished product.

I personally am a big fan of the sweeter wines, and I’m sure no connoisseur, but wine selection is like anything else; it all depends on personal taste and what you‘re willing to pay. I’ll take a nice cold wine cooler, homemade or bottled, any day.

People have been making wine for thousands of years, and in the same vein, they have written and recorded the process throughout history, creating a record that has allowed the process and the product to improve to today’s quality alcoholic beverage. The ancient Greeks and Romans had their watered wine, but today, lucky us, we have Dom Perignon.
