What is Red Wine?

Answer:
Wine made from red grapes (actually reddish,
purple, or blue) is red wine. It is derived from a process called maceration where the grape skin is left in contact with the fermenting grape juice.

The shade of red depends on the color of the grape used, and the length of maceration. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Beaujolais, Shiraz and Chianti are a few types of red wine. Red wine has more tannin which allows some varieties like Barolo and Barbaresco to age well. It should be served at about 60oF, in a glass with ample room to allow the wine to breathe and its flavors to emerge. Red wines are most often paired with red meats.
